The Algorithm is the first episode of Battleborn's Story game mode.

Description[]

ISIC has seized control of Fort Ocoban – an old UPR mining colony on the ice moon of Bliss – where he plans to strike the killing blow against the cosmos, and free all sentient life from the cruel mockery they call existence. To do this, he’ll need Ocoban’s considerable energy reserves to process the Algorithm: a program that ISIC believes can crash the universe itself.

Objective[]

  1. Enter the Ocoban facility through ventilation shafts in the ground, by destroying a giant shard.
  2. After jumping through the vents, ISIC sends the H3NCHM4N out to defeat you. After reaching half health, the H3NCHM4N will teleport away and create a copy of itself.
  3. When defeated, head through the door that opened and then activate the "Bridge Bulkhead" (opening the door so you can proceed), by standing on a conduit.
  4. You then encounter a bridge where you have to destroy two giant shards to disable a shield gate, blocking you from proceeding.
  5. Entering an ice-covered part of the facility, you search for a cave entrance. It is here where your impeded by a giant S1.Sentry unit named Geoff, who claims to be a real biological spider. By standing on a conduit, you activate the facility's fumigation system and trick Geoff into fighting you.
  6. During the boss fight, you will have to activate the fumigation system several times after Geoff retreats inside to get firmware upgrades.
  7. After defeating Goeff, you head into the cavern, encountering robots frozen stiff by cooling units. Unfortunately, you have to disable these cooling units to proceed, since the vents that hinders your progress are temperature sensitive and shuts when the room gets too cold. By destroying a few giant shards and the enemies that you inevitably release because of this, you eventually make your way through into an open chamber.
  8. In this chamber sits a gigantic ice drill. Kleese or Ghalt explains that ISIC is behind an icewall on the side of a chamber, so you activate the ice drill by standing on another conduit. Using the drill attracts unwanted attention though, and summons an ice golem called the Galactic Emperor, which you have to fight.
  9. When the Galactic Emperor is at half health, it shields itself and burries into the ground, throwing up blocks of ice that summons smaller ice golems. After summoning these, the Emperor will encase itself in ice while healing itself. Destroy this quickly to negate as much healing as possible. When the ice is destroyed, it can be killed completely.
  10. As you kill the Emperor, the drill finishes destroying the wall. You proceed through the ice caverns and jump down a hole in the floor, landing on a stone platform in a huge underground area. Contrary to the rest of the map, this place is more lava than ice and looks like the ruins of a long forgotten civilization. Proceed forward, killing the last of ISIC's robots and make your way to a jump pad.
  11. You land on the edge of what looks like a digital tomb and make your way towards a conduit in the middle of a stone circle. Powering the conduit lowers the circular platform and you enter ISIC's lair. This is where the final bossfight, ISIC Magnus, takes place.
  12. ISIC Magnus is a giant four legged machine with ISIC piloting inside a central tube. To deal direct damage to ISIC, you have to firstly destroy one of the four batteries on his legs. Once this is done, ISIC exposes a giant cell battery under his machine which takes guarantied critical damage. After reaching around 25% health, the mechanical body collapses in on itself, and the head of ISIC is released. It floats around and sucks you in, throwing you into the air. It can be quite a challenge for melee characters to deal damage to it, but luckily the head also constantly takes damage while in this state.

  - During Geoff's bossfight, he will exclaim that firmware upgrades taste like copper, which is funny because he is a robot.
